Moisturizing is the foundation of skin care, did you know?
Moisturizing plays a vital role in skin care, just like a versatile little black dress that can wake up your entire wardrobe. Only when the skin is kept sufficiently moisturized can the subsequent skin care ingredients such as whitening and anti-aging penetrate into the deep layers of the skin better.
Moisturizing products usually contain water-locking ingredients, which can tightly hold the moisture in the skin and slow down its loss, just like covering the skin with a protective cover.
Three important concepts about "absorption and moisturizing":
Absorption: To be precise, it should be penetration.
How to make the skin like a sponge full of water and increase the permeability.
Hydration is not equal to moisturizing, the most important thing is moisturizing.
To know how to moisturize, you must first know how the skin loses water, so that you can treat the root cause. The skin can be roughly divided into two layers, the dermis inside and the epidermis outside. The dermis contains collagen and has a high water content of about 70%, just like a box of jelly that has just been torn open, crystal clear and glittering; while the cells of the epidermis evolve all the way from the basal layer (dermis-epidermis junction) to the outside, like wearing layers of armor, and the water content gradually decreases. When it comes to the outermost stratum corneum, the water content drops to only about 15%. Therefore, the skin forms a dam structure with a water level from high to low from the inside to the outside, and the valve is the stratum corneum. If the stratum corneum loses too much water or the structure is abnormal, the dam will begin to leak water, causing peeling, dry cracks and even redness and swelling.
Now that we know how the skin loses water, it is not difficult to come up with a solution. First, it can increase the closure of the skin and fill the gaps in the loose stratum corneum. The ingredients that play this role are mainly petrolatum, vaseline, ceramide, isostearyl isostearate, squalane, jojoba oil, safflower oil, sunflower oil, olive oil, carnauba wax, beeswax, etc.
Secondly, a hydration layer can be formed on the surface of the skin, so that the water level downstream of the dam is higher, or even the water can flow back into the dam. For example, glycerin, xylitol, PPG-15 stearyl ether, etc. use this method to achieve moisturizing effects.
Finally, it can enhance the skin's own barrier function and reduce water loss. Niacinamide, the "panacea" in skin care products, can achieve this effect. The reason why it is called "panacea" is that it not only moisturizes, but also has the effects of whitening, improving skin texture, reducing fine lines, reducing oil secretion, shrinking pores, and reducing red blood.
There are gaps between skin cells, and the cell walls are not indestructible. Skin care products can try to penetrate into the skin barrier through these channels. The skin is like an overpass, and different skin care ingredients will penetrate into the deep layers of the skin through different channels.
If the skin is dehydrated, the keratinocytes will become dry and peel off, resulting in slower metabolism and a fragile skin barrier. In this case, even the most advanced skin care ingredients will not work, but will easily cause allergies.
The hydration effect can usually only last for one or two minutes. The skin temperature and dry external environment will cause the surface water to evaporate quickly. Therefore, only by moisturizing well can the channel for nutrient delivery remain smooth, allowing whitening, anti-aging and other ingredients to reach the bottom layer of the skin normally.
Therefore, everyone can choose the right moisturizing product for their skin problems. If the skin is already dry and damaged, you can choose ingredients that improve the skin's closure. If the skin is not damaged and you are just doing moisturizing work, you can choose ingredients in the hydration layer. If you have multiple skin needs, you can look for a product with a mixed formula of multiple ingredients.
For moisturizing, everyone must pay attention to it. This is the basis of our other skin care steps. Moisturizing well will get twice the result with half the effort!
